We have all been there. That point in time when you look at the mirror and no matter what you do, you’re not satisfied with your hair. You straighten it, curl it, braid it, pick it up in a pony-tail, in a sock bun… You look at yourself in the mirror and you realize you need a change. So then you start going through the options: cutting it (yikes!), getting bangs, getting highlights, going blond, Ombré (seriously?). You start looking at your old pictures and revisiting past
mistakes looks. For me this means bad DIY highlights at age 13, red tissue-paper dyed hair (or Kool-Aid, don’t judge), impossibly long Rapunzel-esque locks, a VERY short bob, a very short bob with blunt bangs (think Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction), completely blond hair (for a complete three days), Ombré, and long brown locks for the past 3 years. I arrived at the conclusion that I wanted professionally-colored pastel hair and I might as well get it out of my system before I turn thirty.
I wish I had an awesome DIY tutorial of how to dip-dye your own hair but the truth is, I’m chicken. Hair coloring is not my forté, makeup is.
So, after 70 minutes of bleach and two failed attempts at baby pink (the hair color wasn’t light enough to hold the color), my hair stylist told me she wouldn’t be responsible if my hair turned into chewing gum as she had recommended no more bleach. As I sat there in utter sadness, she applied a violet toner to kill the yellow strands and VOILA! We ended up with pale purple locks which I fell in love with. She then applied a high intensity violet dye to make the color pop and that’s how we ended up here. Someone once told me that the secret to life is Plan B (and no, not as in the pill you sickos). So in the end, I ended up with pastel-colored hair and I’m LOVIN’ the change! What crazy hair stories do you have? Share with us on the comments section!
