It’s been too long since we talk beauty, and it’s been waaaayyy too long since my last blog post. As some of you may know, I recently quit my nine-year, corporate job to pursue my passion in makeup artistry on a full-time basis. I’ve been itching to write about it in intimate detail but in an effort not to turn this space into a personal diary (more than I already have), I’ve been pretty quiet about this whole transition (at least here in the blogosphere).
Anyhoo, all that life stuff belongs in another blog post. Or on a drunken snapchat broadcast. Lets talk beauty:
- Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant: Hey, the state of my pits falls into the beauty category because there ain’t no owning your glam when you stink like a skunk, which was my case with the previous NINETEEN natural deodorants that I suffered through until through the magic of Amazon, I bumped into this gem. This award-winning formula is all-natural, certified vegan, aluminum-free, AND it gets extra points for being made in the good ole U.S.A. Ladies, you know that deo smell at the end of the day? Don’t play, you KNOW what I’m talking about. This deodorant makes you smell like nothing. Yup, nada, zilch, literally nothing, even after a long day! I embarked on the quest for a natural, aluminum-free deodorant because the thought of breast cancer terrifies me and the fact that this one in particular, works way better than any other deodorant I’ve ever used (including the clinical strength variety), is nothing short of magic. Amazon.com carries is for $7 (here). My mom found it at Marshalls once for about $5. Note: Allergic reactions to baking soda are no joke. Use every other day when transitioning to this deo because the burn is real! Once your pits adapt, the redness and burning goes away. I’ve had to stop using it for about a week at a time. Be patient. I promise you it’s well worth it.
- KORRES Foaming Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser: I substituted my old makeup remover for this 86.4% naturally composed, soap-free deliciousness and I’ve noticed less irritation on my skin. It also includes yummy ingredients like amaranth seed extract to soothe and calming honeysuckle which provides antibacterial benefits. Priced at $26, it’s not exactly cheap but a little goes a long way so I’m anticipating that using it 5 or 6 days a week on average, it should last about 3 months. Find it here.
- Maple Holistics Silk 18 Natural Conditioner: Being the gracious recipient of a lot of products, it takes A LOT for a product to impress me. This product blew. my. mind. You guys know I have a giant mop of curly (now, bleached) hair. This conditioner cut my blow-drying time by a third and left my hair feeling and looking as if I had flat-ironed it: SILKY SMOOTH. Not to mention that it smells amazing and a you only need a little bit because this stuff is super concentrated. They literally extract 18 silk amino acids during the silkworm’s process of creating silk, mix it with botanical keratin and and arsenal of other natural ingredients like aloe vera and argan for a super-formula that not only leaves your hair literally feeling like silk, but strengthens it with every use. Check out their website here for the rest of their products and to read more on this awesome conditioner which is now on MEGA SALE for $11.95, normally priced at $30.
- MAKE UP FOR EVER Pro Light Fusion Highlighter: I’ve been loyal to Jaclyn Hill + Becca’s Champagne Pop for some time now, but oh-em-gee, where has this highlighter been my entire life? This soft-shimmer, gel-powder is THE TRUTH with undetectable texture and the perfect amount of super blendable sheen is the new big boy of luminizers. PLUS, they improved the formula by making it talc-free which is a big yes in my book as talc is a known carcinogen and makes your pores larger over time. Find it here.
There you have it, lovelies! A little bit of skin, hair, and glam just in time for the holidays. I wish you and your loved ones a blessed holiday season and I hope we get to meet in this new year that is about to begin.
As always, love, light, and peace from the Own Your Glam girl and may you dream big in 2017. I know I am.
