SPAIN: LAND OF GIANTS || ESPAÑA: TIERRA DE GIGANTES

You know when you’ve experienced so much in such a short period of time that it’ becomes a giant blur in your mind? Yeah, that’s me right about now. I need about a month to mentally sort out my time in Spain.

There are a million things I want to share with you guys but the one experience that keeps coming back to mind was our day at Campo de Criptana, where part of Don Quijote’s adventure takes place. The coolest part of this day? Taking a tour of an authentic 16th century windmill that is perfectly preserved and is still fully functional.

Now, I’m not about to give you a history lesson here because boring, plus Wikipedia does a much better job than I ever could but this you need to know for the for the purpose of understanding this already somewhat messy post. Bear with me, guys.

Don Quijote de La Mancha was a myopic, neurotic mess (sound familiar?) who decided to set out on a knightly quest as a result of reading way too many books. He was convinced that the world was as he saw it. Prostitutes were damsels that needed saving, and windmills were giants that needed slaying. His story is one of leadership, humor and courage. He paid no mind to the haters and nay-sayers of his 16th century era and he was a happy individual which brings me to my point. Life is exactly as we see it. Perception is in fact what shapes our reality.

A few things we can learn from Don Quijote:

  • Be who you think you are and be proud of it. Put on that knight’s armor and #slay, girl.
  • Pay no mind to the haters and naysayers. Unless they feed you, clothe you, or sign your paycheck, brush them off. The less attention you pay to negative forces, the more time you have to cultivate positive in your life.
  • Never give up on your dreams. Never. Even if it means pursuing whatever it is you love as a hobby. Make some time every single day for what makes you feel alive.
  • See life as the grand adventure that it is. No explanation needed for that one.

About this outfit: My dad is an avid mountain cyclist and comes across fairy-tale-like scenery often while on his expeditions across the Spanish countryside. If you follow me on Snapchat (@OwnYourGlam) you know exactly what I’m talking about. He had recently sent me a picture of a field replete with wild poppies, at which point I became completely obsessed with poppies (tattoo coming soon! The husband is NOT going to like this). I packed this yellow silk skirt and crossed my fingers, hoping we would bump into one of these red fields during my visit, but when I learned about Campo de Criptana and the windmills, I knew this was the opportunity of a lifetime for some epic shots. So I paired my Tory Burch skirt with one of my favorite tops (polka-dots are my jam!), these beyond-comfy Free People sandals which I got for a steal at Nordstrom’s semi-annual sale, and this BP cross-body which I also got on major sale, and voila! On a sentimental note, my dad took these pictures and while shooting, it took me back to when I was a little girl and he would ask me to pose in new outfits, and embarrassingly large bows (thanks mom). My mom went for the “Christmas present” look on the daily…and now you know where I get the Extra from.

Until next time, stay fabulous.

ONE JACKET, FOUR LOOKS (PART 2)

January 16, 2015

I love how certain articles of clothing, like this super chic, double-breasted, off-white jacket from The Limited, can be so incredibly versatile. On the last post, we explored two business looks with this same jacket: A black and white classic staple and another one with some tropical flair.

Today, we will explore another classic and casual staple and, a final more risqué look for a night out on the town.

 IVORY BLUES

This was by far my favorite part of this shoot. This look is fun, edgy, sexy and polished. Denim and ivory is an incredibly versatile combination that looks good with pretty much any other color you feel like throwing in. I chose a more conservative look, keeping the shoes in metallic blue tones to blend in with the denim, and I added some spunk with the floral sunnies. Thin/petite girls everywhere: This may shock you but Hollister actually has THE BEST fitting jeans for an unbeatable price. I got these on sale for twenty-five dollars! (Normally fifty dollars). Another little secret…These are actually jeggings. Yes, I felt like a teenager shopping for jeggings at Hollister, but the result was incredible: Soft, light, flattering “jeans” that adapt to my petite frame. Thanks to my eighteen year-old sister for the tip. She saw me wearing some old jeans not too long ago and said, “Please don’t ever wear that again.” Ouch. Another pro about jeggings? It’s hot as hell in Miami and having a pair of these to thrown on instead of actual denim can be a lifesaver come August.

 SKY-HIGH SHORTS

This look is for a night out (OBVI). I’m that girl in the group that is ALWAYS COLD. Always. This off-white jacket is a more grown-up and polished alternative to a denim or leather jacket. The stockings dress up the shorts as well and they save you from walking around with your cheeks hanging out. Ankle booties are perfect as they allow your legs to look loooong, plus knee-high boots are a little too much (in my humble opinion). Some nice, patent leather pointy pumps would also do a nice job with this outfit. Fun fact: I got this super cute clutch with a set of lip glosses I bought from Tarte!

So, there you have it ladies. One jacket, four completely different looks with items I already had in my closet (except the jeans). Next time you say you have nothing to wear, get your thinking cap on and think outside of the box. Fun combinations exist within the realm that is your closet; we just have to have a little fun, be adventurous and step out of our comfort zone.

Stay fabulous!

I’VE BEEN NAUGHTY AND I DON’T CARE: MY HOLIDAY WISH LIST

December 6, 2014

HOLDAY WISH LIST COLLAGE 2014 .001 Ah, yes. It’s that time of the year. The Holidays are literally around the corner and I have somehow convinced myself (and Santa) that I’ve been a good, good girl all year and I deserve everything my little heart desires. My wish list is waaaay longer than this and it includes some items too risqué to share here (wink, wink), so I chose one from each category:

  1. Nars Virtual Domination Cheek Palette $65 –  This limited edition palette includes some of Nars’ best selling cheek shades and one exclusive holiday color and it does it all! You can blush, bronze and contour with these highly pigmented powders. A make up Diva’s must-have.
  2. Chevron Pattern V1 Skin for the Original Beats by Dre Wireless Headphones $19.99 – I love customizing all my gadgets and skins are the easy and affordable way to do this. This website: www.designskinz.com has thousands of designs for all your electronics. Also on my list: the newly released and improved Beats by Dre Solo2 Wireless Headphones. I strongly believe that working out with better headphones will help me push more weight while dropping low, low, low doing squats at the gym. If you’ve heard what they sound like, you would totally agree with me.
  3. Sisley Phyto-Rouge Hydrating Long Lasting Lipstick in Rouge Passion $55 – Voted on Vogue’s 10 best lipsticks on National Lipstick Day, this one promises phenomenal hydration and rich color simultaneously. If you follow me on Instagram (which you should!) you know I’m a lipstick junkie and I use MAC a lot. The problem with MAC is that the matte shades can make your lips feel as if you’ve rubbed them against a cheese grater –  not fun. This Sisley lipstick is precisely on my wish list because in all honesty, I have a really tough time forking over $55 for a lipstick.
  4. Cartier Eau de Cartier Goutte de Rose $93 –  I loved this scent the moment it came out. It is light and fresh – perfect for daytime, yet sultry and sexy at the same time, making it appropriate for nighttime as well.
  5. Kate Spade All Aboard Clock Crossbody $298 – I mean, how fun is this little purse? I love statement accessories that make me stand out from the crowd and this baby is sure to do that.       L-O-V-E  IT!
  6. Christian Louboutin Fifi Booty in Leopard $1,395 – My favorite leopard booties broke beyond repair last year and I haven’t found a pair worthy of their replacement…until now. These Louboutins are made with soft pony hair and feature a stunning 120mm stiletto heel for some added bow-chicka-wow-wow sex appeal. Perfect for day or night, these would make me oh so freakin’ happy.
  7. Babyliss Pro Nano Titanium Volare Hair Dryer $229 – My hair dryer and I have a rocky relationship. Like most relationships, we have our good and our bad days (like terrible ones) and I’ve actually broken up with it once or twice. Hair dryers are one of those tools that if chosen correctly and treated nicely, they can provide years of reliable service. I’ve had my Solia Thermal Ionic hair dryer for almost six years now and the on/off switch is just now malfunctioning. It is a third of the price of the Babyliss but this hair dryer (the Babyliss) is quite literally the Ferrari of hair dryers. B.S. you say? It is engineered with a Ferrari-designed motor for superfast drying time and silky strands. I want to know what the big fuss is all about. If you want one, get in line. It has been sold out for weeks and there is a waiting list. The struggle is real, people.

Maybe there is a soul out there spending sleepless nights wondering what to get lil’ ole’ me for Christmas. Suffer no more! Your prayers have been answered! The best way to make sure you don’t get something lame for the holidays is to make a list and email is to all your friends and family…or you can just be passive-aggressive and drop hints ALL THE TIME.

What’s on your wish list?

Stay Fabulous!

PAINTING THE TOWN RED WITH MY SEQUIN FEDORA…AND MY SKULL TANK

October 29, 2014

Tatiana Ceballos Miami Fashion Blogger www.OwnYourGlam.com Sugar Skull Sequined Fedora

It all started with, “I’ll just do a little eyeliner” and then I ended up with heavy eyes and mixing three different shades of lipstick to match my new crimson tank top. Hey, shit happens. After all, it is in fact the season to vamp it up and to rock costume-y looks. I was going for a goth/vampire-ish look and I think I totally nailed it (it also helps that I can’t possibly be any more pale).

I’ve been all about comfort lately. I wear ridiculously high heels all week for work. By the time the weekend rolls around, my feet are swollen and achey and I just want my converse or any of my flat boots (not to mention a stiff drink).

With this makeup I broke one of my cardinal rules: don’t do heavy eyes AND dark lips! I said, “To hell with it” and I topped off the look with my favorite fedora. My lucky, concert-going sequin fedora. I have to admit, I felt a little weird but I dealt with it. I’m all about pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I happily left the house, strolled around Mary Brickell Village with my boo (got a few weird looks), sat at an outside table at Rosa Mexicano and stuffed my face with Guac.

Lipstick + guacamole = Happiness. It really is just that simple sometimes. Oh, and do yourself a favor and order the flautas and the Mexican corn the next time you’re at Rosa. Thank me later.

Stay Fabulous!

PRODUCT REVIEW: MORNING & NIGHT ANTI-AGING DUO

October 26, 2014

Clinique Superdefense Philosophy Help me retinol Review by Tatiana Ceballos Miami Beauty Blogger

What is one desire us women have in common? (besides being able to stuff our faces with chocolate cake and not gaining a pound?) We want to preserve our bright, youthful-looking skin for as long as possible. Unless you have miracle genes (lucky bishes!), this actually takes some work, dedication, and discipline. This sounds like training for a triathlon, but it’s true. Developing a good skin routine and sticking to it (regardless of how drunk you are before you go to bed) is key to having good skin and keeping those scary aging signs at bay.

My current anti-aging fantastic duo:

  1. Morning – Superdefense Daily Defense Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 by Clinique
  2. Night – Help me Retinol Night Treatment by Philosophy

Lets talk about each of them:

Superdefense Daily Defense Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 by Clinique

This is a light, silky moisturizer packed with antioxidants and UVA/UVB protection. I love this product because it is easily absorbed by the skin, it doesn’t smell like sunblock (I HATE the smell of sunblock) and it is oil-free (hoorrayyy!). I resent anything that makes my oily situation worse. There is a formula for dry skin and another for oily skin. I recommend this to anyone who needs a good daytime moisturizer with SPF and is interested in fighting the first signs of aging. It’s obvious I am a huge Clinique fan and this product is a gem. I use this under my foundation or alone (on those rare makeup-free days).

Help me Retinol Night Treatment by Philosophy

This product is solely responsible for me feeling comfortable enough to leave the house without makeup, and not just to the grocery store. Last Saturday I spent the entire day out and about (manicure at Gloss, lunch at Hillstone, blog-work at Starbucks) without a drop of makeup. My skin has better texture, tone, my pores are smaller and clear of gunk. My skin just looks so much better overall. I bumped into this product in search of a mild retinoid as my skin looked dull and congested and as I approach the big 3-0, I know I need an anti aging product at night. I knew retinoids are prescribed for a myriad of skin situations but I wasn’t ready for a super strong retinoid. Over-the-counter retinoids are significantly more gentle as the formula is milder and contains less of the active ingredient that really goes to work on your skin. This specific product has fantastic reviews and has a sweet price of $47.50 which is inexpensive compared to most retinol products that are closer to the one hundred mark (and above).

According to Philospphy’s website, you need this product if (taken from Philosophy.com):

  • you have deeply clogged pores
  • you want the ultimate multi-tasking product that will clear pores, even pigment, and reduce fine lines
  • you want the benefits of a vitamin a product without the peeling
  • you seek something more gentle than retin-a
  • you want a deep cleansing facial while you sleep

Things to keep in mind while using products with retinol:

  • Retinoids can make your skin sensitive and burn easily. A good daytime SPF is a must. This also means absolutely no sun to the face (who does that anyway?)
  • They are to be used at night for optimal results.
  • A good nighttime moisturizer is recommended as retinoids tend to make skin a little dry. I’m using Clinique’s DDML Gel (Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, also oil-free) on top of Help me.

If you start using a retoiod, be patient with your skin. It takes several weeks to get used to the product. Use it every other night or twice a week and progressively work your way to an every night routine. Redness, sensitivity, itchiness, peeling and mild burning is normal at the beginning.  If the symptoms persist then you might need a more mild formula. Always check with your doctor if you have a pre-existing condition.

I recently incorporated a new morning cleanser and toner from Elemis Spa and did away with my old ones. The results are positive so far! I will report on those once they are finished.

Stay fabulous!
