This past week, I sat in front on my 10x magnifying mirror and turned on the six lamps I use to record videos. I LOST MY SHIT. I had a mini break-down. Wearing foundation six days a week, combined with South Florida’s ridiculous summer heat and humidity can really do a number on your skin. Even while having a solid skin-care routine, we all need a good facial once in a while and I was BEYOND the point of needing one.
Let me start by saying that I LOVE Elemis Spa. I have enjoyed great massages at Elemis both on land and at sea (Royal Caribbean – Oasis of the Seas, to be specific) and I think they really have their act together. The quality of the staff, the fabulous products and the luxurious facilities all come together to create a decadent experience for the senses.
I went in for a Skin-Specific Facial today to clear out my pores and zap the army of blackheads and whiteheads that were colonizing my face and jeopardizing the flawless, glowy complexion I’m always chasing, with or without makeup. Facials start in the low $100’s and increase as you add masks and treatments for your specific concerns. I added a clay mask for hard-core, pore detoxifying results and took home a cleanser and a toner to swap out my Acne Solutions ones from Clinique. I think i’ve reached a point where I need to switch up my skin-care routine (read: anxiety). I’m telling you, these late 20’s are killin’ me. – Rolls eyes backwards –
Anyway, my facial was AMAZEBALLS. Period.
Ask for Kayla (at The Village of Merrick Park location) who also happens to be the Lead Esthetician. She really knows her stuff and takes the experience to a whole new level with her professionalism and genuine concern to ensure you have a premium experience and leave with glowing skin. She also told me I might be overdoing it with my skin-care routine (read about it here) because by trying to strip my skin of oil and dirt with the Clarisonic brush plus the cleansers to combat breakouts, I am irritating my skin and in turn causing overproduction of oil…I know. Just peachy, right?
Conclusion: your skin is NOT the enemy. Invest in it. Invest in yourself. If you’re a makeup-wearing diva like me, facials are the equivalent of getting your teeth cleaned at the dentist twice a year. In other words – simply a must.
Stay fabulous!
