If you follow me on Instagram (you do, right?!?) then you already know that I am a certified lipstick junkie. Think of your biggest addiction, your greatest indulgence. Now multiply that times a hundred. That’s how I feel about lipstick; bright or dark, in-your-face, cant-possibly-miss-it lip color. I sit in my little home recording studio and I swatch lipsticks and match lip pencils just for fun. I vividly remember watching my grand-mother in awe as she did her makeup in the morning. Her red lipsticks would hypnotize me, that and I remember thinking she made funny faces while applying them.
So, for the fall, I’m all about that base, bout’ that base, no treble…Ok seriously, I’m all about the lipstick right now. This is new because I usually focus on the eyes: the new eyeshadow palette from so-and-so, the new blending technique, the new eye primer/mascara/liner. But the eyes have taken a backseat this season and I’m letting my lips take the driver’s seat (and put the top down with this beautiful weather) and take center stage.
Now, lets not get this twisted. Eyes still need some attention. I’m using my fave mascara of the moment: Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara by Loreal and I use eyeliner in the water line to make the eyes pop. Depending on my lip color choice du jour, I’ll line on top of my lashes and under the lower lash line with a light, shimmery eye shadow to attract light and give the eyes some depth. This allows me to rock even the vampiest of lip colors during the day without looking too cray (a little crazy is good, too much crazy, not so much). The “it” makeup look for this fall, seen on all the fashion runways and glossies, is the “natural” skin look (meaning, sheer foundation, blush and some highlighting, no contouring), bold brows, clean eyes and dark, dark lips. This look is best paired with simple accessories and hair away from your face (unless you’re channeling your inner Elvira/Morticia Adams). I chose a Katniss Everdeen-ish braid for this look (tutorial?).
Check out these pics from one of my looks this past week! I got a TON of compliments on this lip color. This is “Homegirl” from Kat Von D, found at Sephora. I am nuts about this lipstick. If you haven’t done so, you NEED to check out this line of cosmetics!
